With 49 primary characters — 14 vowels (ಸ್ವರಗಳು), 34 consonants (ವ್ಯಂಜನಗಳು), and the nasal anusvara (ಂ) — this script has been refined through dynasties like the Kadambas, Chalukyas, and Hoysalas.
The Kannada script was adapted for printing during the colonial era and continues to thrive in the digital age, remaining rich in history and lyrical in form.
